"Three independent-minded
gardeners didn't like the way things were on their turf. So one
started digging, one stopped mowing, and a third is creating
his own breed of daylilies." Continued by Claire Ackroyd in the April issue of
The Bangor Metro. |

Daylilies reach peak bloom
here the last week of July and the first two weeks in August.
Visitors to the garden are welcome during bloom season. Please
see the reservation page. Our
garden is a combination of evergreens, dwarf conifers, lilacs
and daylilies.
Flower plants from our daylily garden and nursery are grown on
the coast of Maine. Low temperatures here this last winter reached
16 degrees below zero Fahrenheit. Snow cover is variable from
year to year. The Daylily plants for sale offered here have performed
consistently well in our garden. Plants are bare root double
fans unless otherwise noted. You can order on line here and have
them shipped to you or arrange a date to pick them up.
Daylilies are Summer Perennials
Here in Blue Hill, Maine the Daylilies begin to bloom in mid
to late July and finish up in the middle of August.
The Daylily plants flower in good time with the bloom of many
other excellent summer flowering plants such as Hydrangeas, Roses
Sedums and Lilium bulbs.
Many people ask for bulb daylilies. There is no such plant. Daylilies
are Hemerocallis. They are a perennial plant with wide grass
like leaves that return each year from the root. Lilium bulbs
are not related although some flowers may be appear similar.
Asian, African and Oriental Lilies are Lilium bulbs. Because
of the parallel bloom times Lilium bulbs are often planted with
Daylilies. They are excellent companion plants. While Daylilies
are only mildly fragrant, Oriental Liliums are strongly scented. |
