Holmstrup Cedars
line two sides of the Daylily garden with Emerald green cedar
serving as corner posts. Cedars or Thuya is one of the best evergreen
trees to use as a hedge.
The dark green cedar color is a perfect backdrop for the bright
daylilies as well as the Royal Star Magnolias shown in bloom. |
|
 |
Thuya Occidentalis
Holmstrupi makes a great compact hedge. Shown here is the other
side of the same evergreen hedge as above serving also as a back
ground planting for another daylily bed. In the immmediate fore
ground is a Robusta Green Juniper another great evergreen tree.
Robusta can grow to 25 foot or more.

In the center of this bed
is a unique evergreen tree a Japanese Black Pine called Mini
Mounds. A Golden Motherlode Juniper is in the forground with
the tall growing Hetz Juniper used as a back drop. To the far
left is another Robusta Green Juniper with its eclectic look.
Using these dwarf and unique evergreen trees in the landscape
design will add solid defined character to your gardens. |

Winter color on the
Tiny Tim Cedars
casts a beautiful bronze glow. Two Pyramidal Cedars stand as
guard pillars at the garden entrance.

personality even after a snow fall.

A larger hedge
of Techney Cedars makes a very sturdy fence and a great background
for more dwarf evergreen trees and shrubs. This Techny Cedar
hedge is trimmed to a knife edge at 8 ft height which sheds snow
easily in winter. The Gentch White Hemlock benefits from a trim
responding with very white growth in summer. In the center of
the bed are two Thuya Tiny Tim with a rare dwarf evergreen Everitts
Golden Hemlock tree in the back. |

One of the nicest evergreen
trees used in our garden is a long curved hedge of Chamaecyparis
P.filifera Aura Nana. Shown above. |

Rhododendron Aglo.
Dwarf evergreens Balsami
Nana and Montgomery Spruce are near new growth opening. Chamaecyparis
Filifera Bright Gold shines in the front .
Rhododendrons have evergreen foliage and are a perfect mix with
conifers in your landscape designs. |

This center bed by
the sand pond contains larger evergreen trees like Norway and
Morheim Spruce, Pyramidal Cedar and a Crippsi Chamaecyparis.
Directly behind the pond is a Gold Cone Juniper and Left of the
sand pond is a horizontal grower blue Prostrata Spruce with an
older miniature evergreen Little Gem Spruce. To the immediate
right is a very slow growing dwarf Scotch Pine called Viridis. |

Trimmed Hetz Junipers
make wonderful whimsy-ish topiarys. In center of this bed to
the right is a Little Gem Spruce on a 36 inch standard now displaying
a round form in its older age, a rare aqua blue Saint Mary's
Broom hugs the ground making for a neat no trim evergreen specimen.
The totally non disciplined Robusta Green is on the corner.
To the left, a dwarf evergreen
spruce tree called Picea Orientalis Bergmans Gem which has a
growth rate of two to three inches per year.
