In the Northeast it is best to plant perennial flowers and plants in the Spring.

Planting Guide for
Trees & Shrubs

When planting, make the hole at least 6" deeper than the height of the root ball. Refill with amended soil and add the plant, when finished the soil should be at the same level it was in the pot. Make the hole at least 12" wider than the width of the root ball.

If the plant is in a pot, remove it. If it is in burlap, first position it, add some soil to hold it in place, then untie and fold the burlap away from the plant, finish filling being sure all the burlap is covered with soil. Water thoroughly. Most plants benefit from a topping of mulch. Several inches is plenty. Trees should be staked. Mouse Guards for everyone !

What's a Mouse Guard ?

Use a Mouse Guard on all your newly planted hardwood trees and shrubs to protect from mouse damage. Mice like the bark of many plants and they can easily cause a lot of damage. Save yourself a lot of trouble, put Mouse Guards on all your trees and ornamental shrubs. Make them large enough to leave in place for several years.

Guide to the planting and care of Daylilies:

Plant in a mix of compost, peat moss or well done bark mulch and good garden soil. To plant: Make a hole larger than the roots. Mound soil mix in the middle of said hole and place the plant so the roots fall naturally down over the side of the mounded soil. Finish filling the hole with soil mix. The crown should be at or just below the soil line. {No more than an inch of soil over the crown.**} Water thoroughly !
**The crown is the point of the plant where
the roots and leaves meet.

Daylilies like full sun,( at least 7 hours), but with a bit of shade
from the hottest afternoon sun.
Daylilies do fine in raised beds as long as there is good drainage. Most like regular and frequent water during the heat of summer, especially when in bloom. They will benefit from an organic mulch. Use it an inch or two deep, keeping materials like grass clippings several inches from the base of the plant. It is advisable to 'deadhead ' the plants during the flowering season. This keeps them neat looking and prevents unwanted pods forming.
Fertilize lightly and or top dress with compost in the spring and again during or right after flowering. Go easy on the nitrogen in Spring or you will get all leaf growth and little flowering.
